Wash vehicles at commercial car wash facilities whenever possible. These facilities recycle their water and as a result they put very little pollution into the groundwater or stormwater system. Wash boats, outdoor furniture etc., on your lawn rather than on your driveway so that the runoff drains into the ground rather than directly into a storm drain. That way your soils will act as a filter to contain soaps, greases, grit, etc. that can pollute streams, wetlands and Long Island Sound.
