Bauer Park was established in 1990 when Erwin Bauer gave his farm to the Town of Madison. He left the farm to the town, as he and his brother Anthony never married and had no immediate family nearby.
Bauer Park encompasses some 64.5 acres with 40 acres located on the west side of Copse Road and 24.5 acres on the east side, just north of Hunter’s Trail. There are open fields, forest, wetlands, ponds and streams to explore.
Over 100 garden plots are available for rent by community gardeners. Educational programs for students, scouts and members of the community occur year round, supported in part by the Erwin Bauer Charitable Trust. Tour the farmhouse and hear stories about the Bauer brothers, learn about the barn renovation, hike the woodland trail, go on an outdoor scavenger hunt, and discover more about the Bauer family’s extraordinary gift to our town.
